Laramie Montessori School Board
Laramie Montessori School is a Public Charter school, which means that we not only select and approve our own curriculum and teaching methods as long as they conform to state and federal standards, but we also have our own independent school board. This non-profit school board is volunteer only and members are elected every year by parents at the Annual Meeting in May.
Mission
Our mission is to support the development of the whole child through an authentic Montessori environment that honors the child's intrinsic motivation to learn and supports each individual's unique intellectual, physical, social, and emotional development.
What does the LMCS Board of Trustees do?
Since LMCS is a Charter School, the Board provides oversight for the school. The Board meets monthly to remain current on school operations, approve financial documents, and discuss ongoing actions to support our mission - the education of the whole child. Since we must have a Board to oversee our school, serving on the Board as a parent is a great way to support our school in the present and contribute to its ongoing success in the future. Board members typically spend 4-6 hours per month in service to our school. While the most important trait in a Board member is a genuine interest in our school community and Montessori education, other great qualities include financial knowledge, an interest in community outreach and networking, an energetic personality, experience with fundraising/grant-writing, an interest in outdoor/place-based education, and a willingness to learn. Many hands make for light work, and service on the Board helps to ensure that Montessori education in the Laramie community continues to grow into the future!
